St. Mary's New Ironton ER Campus Offers Quality Care at the Speed of Light Via Lumos Networks Metro Ethernet
St. Mary's Medical Center in Huntington, West Virginia has been a provider of advanced health care in the Tri-State since 1924. St. Mary's recently expanded to create a second medical campus in Ironton, Ohio to better serve the residents of western Lawrence County, eastern Scioto County and Northeast Kentucky. St. Mary's Medical Campus Ironton opened in July of 2012. The new 46,000-square-foot facility includes a 24/7 ER with a full staff of specially trained emergency room physicians and nurses that provide state-of-the-art, quality care. The Ironton facility also has comprehensive lab and imaging services as well as offices for specialty physicians, family care physicians and pediatricians.
Critical Applications Are Tied To Main Hospital By Way of a Scalable Private Network
As the telecommunications provider since 2000, Lumos Networks' latest solution for St. Mary's is a network connecting the main hospital to St. Mary's Medical Campus Ironton. At this location, all services are offered by way of Lumos Networks' reliable fiber network. Functions across the network including x-rays, cat scans and images are sent from the Ironton Campus to the main hospital through Lumos Networks' Metro Ethernet link. After files are read, the results are sent back across this same network. "In essence, the Ironton facility is a fully functioning mini-hospital being run across Lumos Networks' fiber. A facility that is 20 miles away seems like it is sitting right here in Huntington," Wendell said.
Lumos Networks Meets Our Needs When We Need Them
"When it comes to implementation of services, Lumos Networks has exceeded our expectations," Wendell said. During the installation of Metro Ethernet into St. Mary's Medical Campus Ironton, Lumos Networks was able to meet a pressing deadline. Under this time frame, Greg Florence, Lumos Networks Major Account Manager and Steve Parkins, Lumos Networks Sales Engineer, worked diligently to obtain permits necessary to get services up and running in a very short time period. "We like doing business with Lumos Networks; it's easy, there's no real challenge to it," Wendell said.
