Fiber gives you the speed and reliability you need to stay consistently connected, in every room and on every device, at the same time. As you add devices to your home (you will), run more devices off Wi-Fi (you will), and send more data to and from your home (you’ll do this too!), ultra-fast fiber internet will keep up. Plus, fiber has environmental benefits too! Fewer nonrenewable natural resources are needed to manufacture fiber-optic networks than DSL or coaxial cable, and it boasts a much longer lifespan.
We will first bring the leading fiber network down one side of your street to provide access to you and your neighbors. You may see some pedestals placed throughout the neighborhood that allow our technicians to access the fiber-optic lines quickly. Then, when you schedule installation for your Lumos service, we extend the fiber-optic line from the network on the road to the side of your home. The process may require some digging in your yard to bury the line. Once complete, everything will be repaired and re-seeded, if needed.
Our professional installation has three steps, typically taking up to seven working days.
- Utility crews will mark the underground utilities in your yard so we can avoid them. (You don’t need to be home for this.)
- A Lumos team will bring a small fiber-optic line from the fiber network at the street to the side of your house, then bury the line and put down grass seed. (You don’t need to be home for this step either.)
- The last and best step is installing Lumos services within your home. Someone 18 years of age or older and able to make equipment positioning decisions must be at home during this step. Installation usually takes between one and three hours.
